CAMCLUE
Help & Field Guide
Practical checks · honest limitations · safer next steps
A reliable first pass
- Connect to the Wi-Fi network you are authorized to inspect and turn on Bluetooth.
- Open Scan and run the network + Bluetooth sweep. Keep CamClue in the foreground until it finishes.
- Open the result and review Findings, Coverage and any incomplete methods—not just the risk label.
- Use Lens Glint, Front IR, Magnetic Check and Room Map where appropriate, then complete a slow physical inspection.
- Repeat from a different position or after conditions change. A single clean pass is not proof that no device exists.
Network scan
The network check looks for reachable local addresses, Bonjour/mDNS, a limited set of relevant ports, and minimal HTTP or RTSP service responses. It does not identify devices or map the full network. A familiar name can still need review, and an unknown name is not automatically a camera.
Common blind spots: devices on another guest network, client isolation, cellular/4G cameras, analog CCTV, SD-card-only cameras, powered-off devices and equipment hidden by a router. iOS does not expose other devices’ hardware MAC addresses to apps.
Bluetooth scan and locator
Bluetooth discovery lists advertisements iOS can observe. A missing name is common and not proof of concealment. Signal strength (RSSI) is relative: move slowly, hold the phone in a similar orientation and compare the trend over several positions.
If the signal repeatedly strengthens near one area, inspect that area physically. Bodies, walls, metal, radio congestion and device transmission intervals can change the reading. Do not expect an exact distance or map coordinate.
Lens Glint
- Dim the room and close bright curtains.
- Start Lens Glint; the rear camera and torch work together.
- Keep the phone near eye level and sweep walls, smoke detectors, clocks, chargers, vents, mirrors and decorations slowly from more than one angle.
- Pause on a sharp point that returns at the same physical location and inspect it in normal light.
Glass, jewelry, screws, polished plastic and reflective trim often create harmless glints. A lens behind dark material may not reflect toward the phone.
Front IR check
Darken the room, use the front camera and move slowly across objects facing private areas. Look for a stable white, purple or reddish point that is visible on-screen but not to your eyes. Test the method first with a TV remote pointed at the front camera.
Not every iPhone/camera configuration sees infrared equally. Remotes, proximity sensors, motion sensors and legitimate security equipment can emit IR. No visible point does not rule out a camera.
Magnetic Check
Remove magnetic accessories if practical, calibrate away from metal, then sweep slowly at a consistent distance. Look for a repeatable change relative to the baseline—not one isolated spike.
Speakers, motors, power supplies, steel furniture, magnets, wiring and the iPhone itself can affect the reading. Magnetic change cannot identify a camera by itself.
Room Map
On supported LiDAR devices, Room Map records room geometry while you walk the boundary and aim at walls, furniture, doors and windows. Risk spots are geometry-based prompts about sight lines and privacy targets; they are not detections.
Move slowly, keep surfaces in view and rescan missed areas. Mirrors, glass, darkness, narrow spaces and moving people can reduce capture quality. Review the model before export.
Reading Findings, risk and coverage
- Finding: an observable network, radio, optical or magnetic clue that may deserve review.
- Risk: a prioritization level calculated from available clues; it is not a verdict.
- Coverage: which methods completed and how much useful sampling was obtained.
- Incomplete: permission, hardware, timeout or sampling limits prevented a meaningful check.
Open each item, compare why it was flagged, and seek a physical explanation. Multiple independent clues at the same location deserve more attention than one weak signal.
Physical inspection checklist
Stand where privacy matters—bed, shower, changing or work area—and identify objects with a direct view. Check smoke detectors, clocks, USB chargers, power strips, routers, speakers, vents, hooks, mirrors, picture frames, plants and unfamiliar objects.
- Look for a pinhole, tiny glass circle, extra opening, memory-card slot or mismatched part.
- Trace unexpected cables and note devices that are warm while apparently idle.
- Compare an object’s model and normal controls before deciding it is suspicious.
- Photograph from a safe distance and preserve context; do not force open or damage property.
History, privacy and exports
History keeps up to 30 scan summaries on this device. Clear it in Settings → Clear Scan History. Share or diagnostic exports are created only when you request them. Support diagnostics exclude Wi-Fi names, IP addresses, Bluetooth identifiers, device names, optical coordinates and RoomPlan data.
Pro, trial and purchases
Pro is available as an auto-renewable weekly subscription or yearly subscription. The App Store purchase sheet shows the final local price and currency. Apple-ID-eligible yearly subscribers may receive a 3-day free trial; CamClue shows trial language only after StoreKit confirms eligibility. There is no lifetime purchase.
Use Restore Purchases with the same Apple Account. To cancel: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → CamClue. Deleting CamClue does not cancel billing.
Troubleshooting
- No local devices: join Wi-Fi, keep the app foregrounded and enable Local Network in iOS Settings.
- Bluetooth unavailable: turn Bluetooth on and allow access; wait a few seconds for the radio to become ready.
- Black camera: allow Camera access, close another camera-using app and reopen the check.
- Magnetic check unavailable: allow Motion access and move away from large metal or magnetic accessories.
- Room Map missing: it requires a compatible LiDAR device and sufficient light/visible surfaces.
- Pro not active: confirm the same Apple Account, network access and App Store sign-in, then use Restore Purchases.
If something looks suspicious
Move to a place where you feel safe. Do not confront anyone or dismantle an object. Record the object and room context without touching it, preserve booking or ownership details, and contact the venue owner, platform, employer or local authority as appropriate. For immediate danger, use local emergency services—CamClue does not contact them.
